I am a filmmaker because cinematically I can explore situations and insights that I can’t express in any other way.

As a Venezuelan living in New York for many years, I’ve become interested in the way Latin American people and their cultures are portrayed in film and media. I contest the idea that profound emotions and resolutions can only happen in the context of fear, violence and physical abuse: the barrio life seen as the Latin American stereotype.

I opt for the intricacy of human confrontations and engagements when they are set against a cultural and historical backdrop.

As a woman I’m devoted to the stories of women who assume traditionally male roles.  I explore their lives and quests through fiction or experimental documentaries.
