KAMARATA
I met Hortensia Barti, an indigenous Kamarakoto woman from the Kamarata Valley, in 2003 during an expedition to the base of Angel Falls, the tallest waterfall on earth, in the Venezuelan Amazon. She told me her people wanted to rescue their history and traditions before the elders of the tribe passed away, but didn't know how. I offered my help and returned the following year with my equipment to record the interviews. It took several trips. Through this work their history was recorded, a major step forward towards the rescuing and preservation of their culture, history and traditions. We continue to work to piece it all together.
